Come congratulate the 2018 Burrowing Owl Class of 2018, the highest count of fledged owls on record. Unlike other owls, burrowing owls are active during the day, especially in the spring when they gather food for their large broods. This owl subspecies prefers open areas with low ground cover. They can often be found perching near their burrow on fence posts and trees.

Allison Smith is gaining a reputation as a master storyteller and has entertaining videos and photographs of Marco Island's burrowing owl families from her work banding and following owls for the past two nesting seasons on behalf of Audubon of the Western Everglades.
