Support our Mission!
Audubon Western Everglades (AWE) founded in 1961 is the oldest not-for-profit grassroots conservation organization in Southwest Florida.
Our Mission:Protecting Southwest Florida's Natural Resources and Wildlife through Advocacy and Education
What we do…
AWE Protects Land and Water:
AWE is working hard to permanently protect and restore an incredible 134,000 acres of wetlands and prime habitat for multitudes of birds and other wildlife in eastern Collier County.
With 82% Wood Stork feeding grounds lost to development, AWE leads wetlands protection efforts.
Preserves the Western Everglades:
Healthy birds are dependent upon clean water. AWE urges government to fund and implement Western Everglades projects.
Takes You On
Year after year, AWE coordinates guided Field Trips to the top birding destinations in Collier and surrounding counties. Sign up on our website for birding trips, kayaking, swamp buggy rides and much more.
Educates Southwest Floridians:
- AWE holds talks and events to educate adults about the natural world we live in.
Promotes Shorebird Stewardship:
AWE partners with Audubon Florida, Rookery Bay and many volunteers for summer Shorebird Stewardship on beaches in Southwest FL. Contact AWE to get involved.
Saves Burrowing Owls & Gopher Tortoises:
This year alone, AWE's Owl Watch harnessed the power of over 80 community volunteers to monitor and protect SW Florida's Florida Burrowing Owl and Gopher Tortoise population. The race is on to save these endangered species on Marco Island and the surrounding communities in Naples.
